Albert York - The Green Mountain

Streams trickle like rain as they cross through my path
To the crystal blue lakes below
See tumbling cliffs of moss and of stone
As I walk up this mountain so slow
I'll never look down 'till I get to the top
This journey will test what I know
I ascend for no reason, I've nothing to lose
And I'll come back with nothing to show
La da da dee da
La da da dee da

I'll climb the green mountain
Until I can walk no more
I'll see the horizon
From here in the clouds to the distant shore

Patchworks of heather bask in the sun
And bring some more life to the range
Before fog rolls in from the valley below
For the weather is so quick to change
I can wait at the summit, for a break in the clouds
Until I can see sky again
Or run down the mountain and risk my own life
Before I'm caught out in the rain
La da da dee da
La da da dee da

I'll climb the green mountain
Until I can walk no more
I'll lose all direction
And I will forget what I'm running for

Ever a quest, but the beauty is lost
The crumbling pathways reveal
That millions of people piled on the peak
Leave the mountain with scars that won't heal
La da da dee da
La da da dee da
La da da dee da
La da da dee da

I'll climb the green mountain
Until I can walk no more
But I'll leave her in peace
At least I can say that I've been before
And I will forget what I'm running for
From here in the clouds to the distant shore
