MellowMellen & the Boom Raccoon - Hell to the Chief

Have you been following the news on TV
Are these our leaders and are we just sheep
They're in it for profit not serving our needs
Democracy's churning some beg on their knees
The planet is warming more and more refugees
How do you quiet growing anxieties
The world keeps on turning so what can you do
The day to day struggles of just being you
What can I do for futures of youth
Labor each day just enough to pay
But not enough to give
Or save or help or be
The best me I can be
I can only be one me
There's just one life to live
I see atrocities on screens
And in the streets
And feel the need to intervene
But it's all so overwhelming
Have you been following these media streams
This virus is spreading it's haunting my dreams
Economy's flailing not serving our needs
Out of touch politicians paid for by thieves
No American value of equality
Profits over people the growing decree
But they need our bodies for their bottom line
The curtain is drawn back the system's defined
Research the issues relevant in your state
Find the ballot measure to which you can relate
Take to the streets to take control of our fate
Take the time to educate
Ask questions, don't discombobulate
Now is the time for renewed faith
Not in others or the state
But your own ability to participate
What can we do for futures of youth
Learning each day I don't want to stay the same
No more passing on my pain
This nation was built for you to
Take control of your own place
And find peace in influencing
Futures that still await, don't hesitate
Don't conflate apathy with a
Waiting, burning energy inside
Flickering, ready to find a time to come, alive
It's never too late to stand up for what you know
In your heart is right
Together, better is in sight, hold tight
A bumpy ride in the night
The beginning of a long long fight
The people in power see it as a right
Not an earned privilege given by
Our vote, our time, our money and our life
It's time to take the power back from your blight
And then we can make the future for generations
Shine bright
Live figures who we see, the ones in history
They're normal people listen
They're just like you and me
We come together, family
Lead with integrity
It's not our first choice
But for the best of humanity
Have you been tuning in to community needs
They are well known and maybe solutions have themes
Like who is in power and what do they gain
Accountability, ask for it by name
Together we will find community flame
Empower each other to do the same
The clock keeps on ticking so what can we do
Do your part make awesome, keep loving stay true
What can we do for futures of you
Learning each day we can't afford to stay the same
No more passing on my pain it's time for growing flame
A passion through the reign, inviting you to join the game
We can't win if we don't play
