Darryl Atherton - Village Green

On the village green under the blue blue sky
My life is turbulent as the brook burbling by
I met you on the green a long decade ago
What became of you when I went with the flow

I loved you then in simpler times back in the day
My one lasting regret from then is that I didn't say
Sitting here in silence letting my thoughts run amok
The realisation I let you go hits like an aftershock

The village green my place to let my thoughts unfold
I could have made things different that story is untold
Could have done so much with our hopes and dreams
That water under the bridge like the passing stream

My heart yearns to be back some ten years ago
As if sad thoughts orchestrate my life's musical score
Sitting in the shade I see names carved on a tree
With nostalgic thoughts it's not what it used to be

On the village green I decide I can't let this go on
I need to look at what I've got rather than the none
If we should ever meet with chance to say hello
Catch up on the decade past then it's time to go
