The Gloria Switch - Burning Sage

The winter fell upon us like a curtain slowly slides across the stage
And nothing's left between us any weightier than words upon a page
We read our books and drink our tea, by eventide we've turned to drinking wine
And nightfall comes so early now, you climb in bed, and I climb in mine

Sage light
Star bright
North wind
Tonight

The snow is piled in drifts around the cabin and it keeps the world outside
I'm struggling with my novel, even worse my fingers feel too numb to write
You wonder what you're doing here, it isn't all that you'd been hoping for
If it wasn't for the wood stove there'd be nothing here to show you any warmth

Sage light
Star bright
North wind
Tonight

Just a smudge on the page
Wasted words I had to erase
Just a smudge on the page
Not the first time I've made this mistake

You're half my age
I'm a burning sage
You're half my age
I'm a burning sage
