Christian Tayar - 2020 Vision

These days America looks like
A page torn from a history book
I thought they dealt with this before my time
Can't believe we're still seeing hate crimes

Dr. King preached peace through his love of the lord
The Panthers came to even up the score
They differed on the methods
But both sides only sough acceptance
250 And we're still fighting civil wars

If you want to lead, lead by example
Don't avoid the issue when it's hard to handle
If violence ain't the answer
Then don't wait 'til hate is spreading like a cancer to do the right thing
We're heading for a collision
And they're getting 2020 vision

These days it's apocalyptic
A lock-down and a global pandemic
But the crowds are rounding up in town
They burned the police station down

Tear gas the mobs
They will not be turned
Risking infection and death just to be heard
The riots spread across the nation
Frustration built on generations
How many times can the lesson go unlearned

Maybe you're seeing clearly for the first time
Yeah, you might find that the only color you have ever seen is green
Are you that proud of what you look like
Or is it just a white lie that your mother told you when she tucked you in to sleep
Because underneath our blood is red
Our lungs pump air
Our hearts beat
But not the countless boys and girls that died in the street
Like George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery
Both were killed in broad daylight
By several men of light complexion
Not a shred of shame in sight
Went home that night
Had dinner with their wives

And if you want to lead, lead by example
Don't avoid the issue when it's hard to handle
If violence ain't the answer
Then don't wait 'til hate is spreading like a cancer to do the right thing
Can't operate without an incision
Let's give 'em 2020 vision
