Forgotten Faces - The Letter
"I write to you, my dearest friend, my only personal friend
My mind is weak and body torn by isolation's hold
So, desperately I write to you inside my hour of need
The tears I cry cannot be found amidst my agony"
Who is this soul, oppressive and dolorous?
Am I a friend to the tragedian?
What of the cold and importunate style of writ?
A pen to paper just to send me regards?
"Do not be shy, my beloved recipient
This letter still be just a warning of mine
So, I await you here inside the hollow abyss
My torment screams for your soul"
"I long for you to visit me and stay in the mansion a while
And with cheerful society I may just break a smile
My gloom is swallowing my cares along with any desire
I reach to you, as I remembered thee in days of old"
The penman spoke of the memories of our lives
Do I remember him as someone I know?
I can't recall incredulous boyhood throes
The blurry lines of my youth in my soul
"So I must know, are you willing to stay a while?
I have a room prepared for thee in my home
I pray to all that is holy and down below
You might remember my name!"
"My name is Roderick Usher. I have sent you this letter
Asking for you to sojourn out to my dwelling place
Surely, you must remember our nights of old Decembers
Watching the fiery embers dance in the fire pit!"
I know the penman, my childhood's beloved
The only Usher I recall!
My conscience is flooded by images burdened
With youthful memories of old
"May you oblige me in my sorrowful woe
And come to see the lonely wordsmith at home?
Like a worm, I struggle to stay alive
My senses fail me as the demons, they sigh"
I must go, the letter demands me so!
I lie awake and contemplate the friend of old
His troubled heart, disturbed and fragile frame
I must see him again
I will go by morrow's light
Upon my horse, I will ride
I will go by morrow's light
Upon my horse, I will ride
I will go by morrow's light
Upon my horse, I will ride
