John C Soon - And That's the Way it Was

Limited affection from the start
Slowly breaking a fragile heart
Kind words don't mend the wounds
Inflicted by your callous tunes
The darkness slowly creeps up on you
Consuming the light as it moves

And I tried to give you a piece of my heart
But you slowly decided to break it apart
And I can't quite understand what you mean to say
When you're quoting verses whose meaning has strayed from intention
From intention

From the darkness you reappeared
Spreading your message in sheeples ears
There's a boy on the street is giving out wool
So others can use it to remain fooled
Convince them all to close their books
Controlling the masses with a single look

And I tried to give you a piece of my heart
But you slowly decided to break it apart
And I can't quite understand what you mean to say
When you're quoting verses whose meaning has strayed from intention
From intention

Traditions forgotten as time marched on
Friends forsaken if they carried on
All that matters now is colored green
Filling your pockets with laced cocaine
We gave to yours all our trust
And now we find ourselves beneath your dust

And I tried to give you a piece of my heart
But you slowly decided to break it apart
And I can't quite understand what you mean to say
When you're quoting verses whose meaning has strayed from intention
From intention

The profession of journalism ought to be about telling people what they need to know
Not what they want to know
A journalist covering politics most of us are aware
Of the necessity to try to be sure we're unbiased in our reporting
In seeking truth you have to get both sides of a story
We all have our likes and our dislikes
But when we're doing the news
When we're doing the front page news
Not the back page not the op ed
But when we're doing the daily news covering politics
It is our duty to be sure
That we do not permit our prejudices to show
That is simply basic journalism

And I tried to tell you the way things should be
But as soon as I died you forgot about me
But still you wear my name like a badge
Even though you've tainted all that I had
My intentions
My intentions
And that's the way it was
And that's the way it is
And that's the way it was
