Quebec Echo - Chopsticks

Today I saw a painting and it made me think of you
Fifty thousand brush strokes in a brilliant shade of blue
I know it's been forever but if you give me a chance
I could teach you Chopsticks and you teach me how to dance
I heard from my friends that you had dropped right off the map
Til the man who wrecked you dies you weren't coming back
Since it's been so long I wonder if you've changed that stance
So I could teach you Chopsticks and you teach me how to dance
The last time that I saw you, well I saw you in his arms
I watched his eyes a-wander but I triggered no alarms
And far be it from me to read into a fleeting glance
Til he taught her Chopsticks and she taught him how to dance
The painting's just a picture but it made me realise
I should fly to Paris and see with my own eyes
It's an open invite if you like the sound of France
I'd teach you Debussy and you'd teach me how to dance
While we wander by the Seine we maybe see a sign
Proclaims a band is playing - you run to wait in line
As they took the stage I felt myself enter a trance
'Cause they played Lisztomania and I just had to dance
Later in the stranger's room the situation's weighed
You tell me of the offers and advances they've made
If I may advise: while a tempting circumstance
They won't teach you chopsticks if you teach them how to dance
Today I saw a painting and I thought of you too much
I followed the instructions and I looked and did not touch
Darling I can disregard the notion of romance
I'll happily play for everyone as long as you still dance
