Charlie Kaplan - The Light of the Day 2

I got these noodles in Greenfield
With Andrew when I went to stay
They had veggies and peanuts and soy sauce
And I still think about them to this day
I used to sleep on his futon
And he used to lend me his duvet
But I don't know if I'll ever go back there
Now that he's moved away
Cole and Alec tracked the week
Before COVID forced us all away
We did vocal sessions at Ian's place
His cat is brown and mine is grey
Caitlin and Kyle sent a video
To tell me that they loved the rough mix I played
I was all alone but it's like I was living
In the light of the day
Ben would bike to Gowanus
And we would meet at the practice space
At first I was nervous singing
But I still listen to those voice notes today
Winston and I ate Thai food
At his old apartment on Cambridge Place
I played him my demos and asked his opinion
And he told me to pick up the pace
Emma brought me down to Carl Schurz Park
That's where we got engaged
She took pictures and I tried to look like
I knew what to do with my face
Sophie sat with her iPad
And worked for days and days
And made animations for all my songs
And that includes The Light of the Day
Now I'm selling vinyl
And checking on my number of plays
I post on Instagram
To try to get people to listen to Sunday
And I think that people liked it
And when they tell me so I feel great
I'm proud that something good came from
My grief and my deep malaise
And I still love those songs
My mom loves California Days
Sometimes I forget In California
Those lyrics are a bit of a haze
I will just keep on writing
Cuz that's just my way
And I hope I can play a show soon
So I can play The Light of the Day
