True Gospel Bookstore - Get Me Out Of Here Blues

I had a friend who I used to drink with
And a girl that would give me a smile
He and I would go to the fights some
She would kiss me at night for awhile

They wound up drinking together
They didn't bother to tell me so
But they went from hard drinks to sweet kisses
And now they're mister and missus
And it's time for me to go

I'm stuck in this place with nothing to do
No one is left here that I want to know
Just give me a minute to hunt for my shoes
I just got those "Get me out of here" blues

I had a batch of kids who all loved me
Who needed me to help them to start
I tried to show them right from wrong
I helped them figure out their part

They've grown up and gone their own way
They don't have time to listen to me
Got their own families and ambitions
I don't fit with their intentions
So it's time for me to go

I'm stuck in this place with nothing to do
No one is left here that I want to know
Just give me a minute to hunt for my shoes
I just got those "Get me out of here" blues

I have no fire to warm me
No one to hold at night
I guess that's the end of my story
So I'll get my self on out of sight

Don't worry about or pity me
I'm not a one to moan
I'll go and do because it's time
And then yours will come and so on

Oh Lord I knew this was coming someday
But I never knew what to do
