Charles Michael King - Are You Happy? So Am I

Happiness is what we thought we had when we were young and dumb
And now we're old with lots of kids and don't know how to measure it
But it seems, by nearly every metric, we are happier today
Than when we were those pain in neck kids making out in your driveway
Perhaps, just as a frame of reference, we should speak of joy and pain
Far less as a diametric, far more as two of the same
Caus I believe that we, with ease, could look upon our current season
And think back to us making out and feel we had it figured out
But you didn't know me, and I didn't know you
I didn't know me, and you didn't know you
So you know just as well as I that most of what we had was lies
But rooted in the truth and love is joy and pain, a tree above
That's dropping fruit when it is time
Are you happy? So am I
