Fern Mackenzie - Lucedale

Rising summer sun over the Gulf
I'm the only one sat on the shoal
Bethany slept in the waves of the sea
Slowly swirling in a golden glowing energy
The smell of dirty sea brine is floating by
And the sands of St. Petersburg are eroding my pride
My hometown is calling: it's time for me to go
Gonna hop in my car with everything in tow

Can't you feel that awful heat on this August day
But it's not half as bad as Texas I'd say
A little lizard legging up a tree's limb
And the summer breeze softly shaking him
I'm walking down the hill to the view of the lake
The best Florida sunset is a picture you can't take; oh, Lakeland
But my hometown is calling: it's time for me to go
Now I'm gonna hop in my car with everything in tow

So I'm driving all night to my hometown
And by the dawn I've got 3 states down
But in Mississippi, at the 4 Mile Truck Stop
I get scraped by a semi, fender ruined and tire popped
Oh baby could this really be the end
To be stuck outside of Lucedale with the Eau Claire blues again
