Penny Rimbaud and Youth - We the Mountain, We the Sea

To see you laying as the earth,
your eyes as gentian pools,
no longer of sight, but in sight
that stones might be tempered,
or the skies suddenly set in glass.
And this the nature of quartz,
so immediate in its alliance,
so impudent in its defiance of night.

Then carry this poesy from the grove
that upon the path
we might yet unite within the fire.

To see you as boulder, as totem,
that great clouds push up to impossible heights
to envelope our passions
and craft them symphonic as spindrift.
That here, beyond, we are brute,
magnanimous in approval,
setting the seal that here we become belonging,
no more transfixed, but fixed entire.

And here we become light as illuminator.
Here we become the elemental creator.

So, as you sleep, so I shall see,
and as you see, so I shall sleep,
all earth, all fire, all water,
here, together at last, as infinity's daughter.
