JimBaumerMe - Kick the Darkness

The Bible says
Eat Drink and be Merry
Because tomorrow you might die
Life boiled down to its most basic element
But bad things happening
Don't have to define who we are
I've always loved the sentiment in Bruce Cockburn's Lovers in a Dangerous Time when Bruce sings
We need to kick the darkness until it bleeds daylight
Got to learn to kick that darkness until it bleeds daylight

But Life can be cruel, it can take the starch out of you and then
You've got to try to figure what's the next step on your path
It's like a curveball thrown, you've got to try to keep your weight back and dump it into The outfield
I'm not sure if this baseball analogy works here but I was thinking about it when I was Playing my guitar

I've always had this thing for Canadian bands and singers, like Cockburn
Along with and the Tragically Hip
There was this band from Moncton, they really made a splash in the early 90s
They were Eric's Trip
Then there's the Halifax scene and Sloan playing their power pop
Matt Mays channeling his inner Neil Young
Then in Nova Scotia there's Joel Plaskett and the Joel Plaskett Emergency
Like Bruce says
Kick the darkness until it bleeds daylight

I'm gonna kick that darkness, until it bleeds daylight
Gonna kick the darkness until it bleeds daylight
Push it back
Throw it down
Kick it out at the darkness until it bleeds daylight
Until it bleeds daylight
Kick at the darkness
Until it bleeds daylight
Pushing back against darkness and evil
Kick the darkness
Until it bleeds daylight
