SideTwo - The Hard Way

Many things I've been handed on silver platters
Many things I've let go thinking they just don't matter
Somehow I just keep on groping through the mud when the high road is just steps away
I'm quite proficient at doing things the hard way
Many places I've traveled have rolled out red carpets
Many places I've passed by with little regret
You can see it in my steps as I deliberately stroll my way into a distant haze
I can take a hint, but I can't keep from taking the hard way
Many times opportunity has fallen in my hands
Many times my own fear will stop me where I stand
When opportunity knocked, I slammed the door and muttered thanks, but I'll make my own way
I've always been well versed at doing things the hard way
These paths I've chosen aren't easy
Some rivers I've run dry
But in the end, I believe I'll have seen so much more with a sharpened eye
Many people have told me I'm swimming upstream
Many people have chastised my crazy dreams
As life begins to torture the temperate and their worlds begin to fray
I'll be content to keep on taking the hard way
I'll be content to keep on taking the hard way
