Nashville Kids' Sound, Hal Wright - Billy Boy

Back when I was young, many many years ago.
My teacher said to me, “Why your pants are pink and green.
And your shirt is black and red. What’s going on in your head?
Your clothes don’t match!”

So the class sat down as our teacher explained
All the colors we should know,
So we’ll match from head to toe.
Now, there’s red and green and blue,
And I thought that she was through.
Then she said to me.

“Listen Billy, Billy boy, I am speaking just to you
‘Cause your pants are pink and green.
I guess colors aren’t your thing.
So, we’ll learn in school today, all the colors and you’ll say,
‘Now my clothes all match.’”

Now, there’s red and green and blue,
And I knew she wasn’t through—
Yellow, orange which I like,
Purple’s really out of sight.
So, I learned in school that day, all the colors.
Now I say, “My clothes all match.”

Now, I’m really, really old and my teacher’s not around.
My pants are pink and green,
Maybe colors are my thing.
Oh, my teacher didn’t know how to match from head to toe.
And she’ll never know!
