Don McCollom - Nogard the Wizard

There's a wizard that lives up the road
In a swamp his lights a burning
From the tower of his sacred spot
He keeps his eyes a turning

His beard is long a pointed hat
The scrolls that he is leaning
Give him the power to make himself
A staff of life returning

The mystery surrounds this place
And keeps the people talking
He comes and goes and no one knows
The direction that he's walking

He's here or there and everywhere
And people just keep gawking
Day or night he's out of sight
The rumor is he's stalking

There was a time a monster came
A dragon breathing fire
It burned a town right to the ground
And terrified the shire

The people cried and many died
The king and one brave squire
They took the king and laid him down
Outside the wizards mire

He gazed at them his eyes all red
Up there upon his tower
The people stared and some disbarred
Below his sullen glower

They begged for him to show his grace
And use his magic power
To raise the king back from the dead
Upon their knees they cowered

He scratched his beard then grabbed his staff
And popped down to the king
An amulet around his neck he talked into his ring
His staff a glow within his robe popped out a pair of wings

A dragon grew inside his hat and ate up everything

The moral of the story, don't mess with wizards
