The N.I.C. - I Believe

I believe, I believe, my father asked me if I talked with the Lord and I said
I believe, I believe, and I did
It's always nice, always nice, knowing where you're gonna finish before you start
I said it's always nice, always nice, and it was

Many years later I was at Vacation Bible School
It was raining outside and outside's what we wanted to do
We got in a circle and prayed "God, please stop the rain"
We did and we said it's cause we meant what we said

I believe, I believe, my father asked if I talked with the Lord and I said
I believe, I believe, and I do
It's always nice, always nice, knowing where you're gonna finish where you start
I said it's always nice, always nice, and it is

Many years later my friend was sick and dying
I prayed but no miracle came despite my trying
Just before he passed a storm came to us
I can't help you I explained I used it already I guess

And when the Lord poured the storm down
I ran outside and stared back at the house
I watched the shingles tear and fly
I watched lightning play crack the sky
And when the Lord poured the storm down
I ran outside and stared back at the house
I watched the shingles tear and fly
I watched lightning play crack the sky
And when the ceiling began to leak
I ran into the flooded basement
I flipped off each and every breaker
As water filled the light fixtures
As water filled the light fixtures

I ran out back into a field with my head held high not because of pride
Because I hoped to look to the sky to see Jesus telling me why
He kept the rain from when I was fourteen all this time and let it rise
And let it brew and it grow into what I know is a downpour
Of what I'd done, I used a miracle on something dumb, on something dumb
