Chris Vala - Out the Door

Walking out the door
Eyes fixed right before
Your so clear made up self
Heading for the shore
Washing off the more
Authentic grit and wealth
But oh am I critical?
Walking down the line
Aiming for the shine
Of your last setting sun
Heading for the coast
Ear pricked for a longing toast
To all that has made you run
But oh that's just typical
You see I'm standing on a hill
Billowing with chill
That is what makes the sun set
And you're standing over there
Wind ruffling your hair
Oh yeah
A cold stab that screams regret
See I didn't know before
What I should've known back then
When I knew ten out of ten
Men would want that which I had when
I flew into the sun
And a chilly fire begun
And I knew then what I know now
That I never wanna run!
But oh is that magical?
Or am I just being logical?
See I'm walking down the line
Drawn in chalk that's left behind
(It was drawn)
By a far more hopeful man
But he drew it in the past
Cause the future didn't seem cruel
And he thought his joy would last
But boy was that kid a fool
He saw life as a miracle
But his eyes were lost and lyrical
What are these greying dreams
That keep on haunting my head?
A world that's calling
Prepare for daunting ahead
But I don't understand
Why is everything suddenly so harsh?
This ain't where I wanna be
What are those naïve thoughts
Of having hope there where it seems
Like all the hope is lost
Like you are fools that carry dreams
Into a certain grave
That is all you can be
I'm walking down the path
I'm walking out that door
Head for the setting sun
Don't turn your head anymore
Don't turn your head anywhere
Cause what you're leaving behind
Is far less valuable than what you stand to find
Cause oh this ain't tragical
If you open up to your lyrical
And you look for a bird in the sky
Cause it is enough that you even tried
