The Sweetsers - An Ode To Angola, Indiana
All we did was stop for gas
And want to stretch our legs
But in a little mall, we found
A model train display
A little piece of heaven for
My son who loved his trains
His smile refreshed my weary heart
As he walked and saw and played
And it was heaven touching the earth
Here beneath my feet
Holy ground, with angels round
The blessed mercy seat
My Father knew what we would need
Before we even asked
And sent us mercy in the form
Of stopping here for gas
Near Angola, Indiana
On exit 144
Then we decided to up and move
To New York from Illinois
And I left late one night to
See the house that we would buy
Sick and out of gas, I stopped
For just a couple of hours
The road behind was short
And the one ahead was long and I was tired
And I only had 4 hours to sleep
And lay down my heavy load
But like Elijah, I woke refreshed
And I set back on the road
I made it through the next 7 hours
Arriving right on time
With my only stop along the way
A hotel along the line
In Angola, Indiana
On exit 144
Then we headed out for good
To move our family east
Two dogs, two kids, packed cars
And a desperate need for rest
We stopped and found a place to stay
When we couldn't drive much more
A cabin refuge by a lake
In a state park by the shore
And sometime later, I had come
To bring my wife's folks too
I drove an RV through the day
But had to stop too soon
I couldn't find a place to park
For free along the way
And then I stopped in a parking lot
At the end of a long, long day
In Angola, Indiana
On exit 144
And it was heaven touching the earth
Here beneath my feet
Holy ground, with angels round
The blessed mercy seat
My Father knew what we would need
Before we even asked
And sent us mercy in the form
Of stopping here for gas
Near Angola, Indiana
On exit 144
