Doug Kuony - Three Steps Back

Life's a roller coaster, you're here for the ride
You finally reach the peak, then plummet down the other side
It's feast or famine, you don't get to choose
You're on top of the world, then down in the dumps with the blues

It's topsy-turvy, you're stalled or you sail
It's a curvy, swervy, roller derby, makin' time, then you crash on the rail
It's all or nothing, heaven or hell
For better or worse, a blessing or curse, who can tell?

Some times life is right as rain
A joyful chorus and refrain
You're making progress, you're right on track
Other times it's all uphill
Worse then if you're standing still
Two steps forward and three steps back

I got a suggestion, a word of advise
Don't be inclined to make up your mind
Based on a single roll of the dice
They're only shadows, illusions at best
An always evolving parade of the cursed and the blessed

Pick and chose, win or lose
A celebration or the blues
You can't have the daylight
Unless you have the night

Forward progress or retreat
Start again and then repeat
Over and over again
The pendulum swinging, beginning to end

So find your balance, it's all that you've got
Go with the flow, going to and fro
When you have and when you have not
'Cause time and tide, they come and they go
What the future will bring
Is a thing that nobody can know

Some times life is good as gold
Like the faerie tales of old
Keep moving forward, stay on track
Other times it such a climb
Makes you pray for better times
Two steps forward and three steps back
