Sleep Music Stories - Sleeping Beauty

ONCE upon a time there lived a King and Queen in a beautiful palace.
They had everything they wanted except a little child...

After many years, a miracle little baby daughter was born to them.

There was a great celebration planned in the palace, and invitations were sent to all the good fairies for the Christening.

They were just about to start the celebration when an old fairy in a long black cloak appeared.

It was the evil fairy Tormentilla, who wasn’t invited. The King and Queen said how sorry they were to forget her and told her to join them.

But she was still very angry.

It was time for all the fairies to grant the baby princess a wish.

They all went in to see the tiny Princess.

The first said: “She shall always be as good as gold”;
the second: “She shall be the cleverest Princess in the world”;
the third: “She shall be the most beautiful”;
the fourth: “She shall be the happiest”;
the fifth: “She shall have the sweetest voice that was ever heard”;
the sixth: “Everyone shall love her.”
..and then the wicked old fairy strode over to the cradle and said,: “And I say that she shall prick her hand with a spindle and die!”

How do you think the King and Queen felt when hearing this?

suddenly the seventh fairy, came out and said:

“Do not cry, I promise you that your daughter shall not die, but only fall asleep for a hundred years. And then a Prince shall come and wake her with a kiss.”

Years went by until the Princess was almost eighteen years old.

Now, the King and Queen had to go away for a few days and, as the Princess did not wish to go, they left her behind in the palace. While they were away she began exploring the palace attic.

And there sat a little old woman, spinning at a wheel

“And who are you my pretty darling?”
My name is Princess Miranda.
The Princess pointed to the spindle, and made the old woman understand that she wanted to see if she could work it.

The Princess sat down and took the spindle in her hand. she immediately pricked her hand with the point and fainted.

All around her fell asleep. The birds, the dogs and cats, the King and queen.
The soldiers and all at the palace all fell asleep where they stood.

The years passed, until a hundred years had passed,

Until a prince came hunting that way with his men and horses.

The prince became separated from the others and got lost.

He came across a woodcutter’s cottage.

The prince asked the old man how to get back home.

After he had told him, the prince asked the man what was behind the thick wood.

The old man told him that behind the wood was a palace where a beautiful Princess lay sleeping for a hundred years, and could only be woken by a kiss from a Prince.

The Prince thought that he could cut his way through to the palace.
He was strong and after a long time, he cut his way through and found the staircase which led to the attic.

There he saw the beautiful Princess asleep over the spindle. He bent down and kissed her.

“Oh! Prince, have you come at last? ” said the Princess

Then she sat up laughing and rubbing her eyes.

She gave him her hand, and they went hand in hand together down the stairs.

There were the King and Queen rubbing their eyes too.

The whole palace was then awake.

Everyone was happy.

The prince and princess were married and lived happily ever after.
