Josie Loner - Ten Years In, Ten Years Out

I'm a hurricane
Of altered states
Drinking wind and rain
From the window pane

Blow a blade of snow
From the mirror's face
A ghost you used to know
But something's changed

Try to run away
But you can't escape it
A decade of heartbreak
Can't be cured in one day

Ten Years In
Ten Years Out

There's a tortured train
Whose reverberations haunt me when I'm sleeping
Crying out in pain
A grinding choir of iron phantoms weeping

It winds behind the automotive graveyard
And the barbed wire of the penitentiary
Where the warden sells the prisoners for free labor
He says time and time alone will set them free

But they know better

They say
Ten Years In
Ten Years Out

Our love is dead
And I murdered it
Your blood inscribes the snow with poetry

To narrate our love
In all its tragedy
I was wanted then
And they came for me

The past is now my prison
I'm the author of my sentence
Etch the walls of all our memories
With penitent inscriptions

Hundred letters to you written
Sentimental dead laments I never sent
You never read them
Cus my words were murder weapons

When the anguish of the train reverberates
Through every junction of my being
Singing voices in refrain explain instructions
To create this composition
A final fatal work of fiction
Full of rage and strange addiction
Learn to live with my decisions

Ten years in
Ten years out
