Christian Tayar - The Spiral

A group of quiet people cramped up in a crowded room
Been waiting for tonight to come all week
Hoping to leave this place real soon
Trying to blow off some steam
Get raw in front of human beings
And not concern myself with how I come across or what it means

But then I wait my turn
Hear these lessons that's been learned
Some I discovered along with them every step of the way
I see these different faces
They come from different places
The more they share the more we sound the same

We're still breathing but the air won't reach our lungs
The heart's still beating but there's no motion to the blood
A courage that's Odyssean
A fate that is Sisyphean
A love and rage pressed together so hard that they are blending in
The life you're living is a haze
The moments you're in are a daze
The numb on your gums is the most you've felt in days
You're still bleeding but the damage is finally done

Monday/Wednesday nights on the third floor of veterans hall
What's your name and What's your story
There's no judgement here We've heard it all
But a friendly word of advice
Don't focus on the pain
It's your time Use it how you like
But ask yourself What can you gain
Because we've all been in The Spiral
Some of us have made it out
Most of us are trying now
Had to watch some of our friends drown

In an endless rolling sea
It comes with the territory
Not a choice you made but make no mistake
It's not for the faint of heart
You've gotta get up off the floor
Try every day just a bit more
Or risk winding right back at the start

You run/You run/You run
But your shadow is right behind you
You hide/You hide/You hide
But what you're fleeing is inside you
It will always remind you
The memories of better times
Secret scars you hide inside
Held together by a fragile mind

The pain's receding
And the wound is closing up
The heart's still beating and there's slow motion to the blood
We're still breathing and the air starts to reach our lungs
But we're still healing and there's more work to be done
