I used to kick it with this couple, let's call them: Dick and Jane
They were crazy for one another but drove each other insane
One week they'd be together, then the next they'd be apart
I always wondered why they loved to feel that tearing in their hearts
Then the time came when Jane was late to drop her eggs
Started regretting every time that she had spread her legs
And Dick was pissed off, he wanted nothing to do with that mess
He really didn't want to put that girl in a white dress

But he stuck by her side, to be a father to his son
When their bundle of joy was born, he was right there
While Jane cursed his name and told him that it wasn't fair
That she had to carry the baby, go through the pain
She didn't want a child with Dick, didn't want his last name
Didn't need him in her life, only needed his cash
He cut a check and his son's name and made a quick dash

Life doesn't always go the way you want it to

Now, Dick and Jane still keep in touch to this very day
But only when it comes to matters that deal with the kid they made
Dick always has a different woman, every time I see him
Trying to live it up in the clubs and the pubs every evening
It's his fountain of youth, it keeps him feeling like he's free
From the life that almost chained him down, it'll never be
He'll never slow up long enough to settle in one place
Doesn't want to have that burden, strapped tight around his waist
Jane is the same way, she floats through time and space
Looking for the next prince to put a smile on her face
She thought she had it figured out, trapped a rebound
He was the perfect man to be that guy who's always around
And he had one of his own, from a prior engagement
Now a family of four, with a living arrangement
He nearly hit the floor when Jane gave him the news
Another child on the way, now he's wearing Dick's shoes
