Under Ego - Voice of the Shadow

My eyes burn from the shrilling of light
This shadow
In which I stand
Behold
Has sunken in
Before me stands this
Ever wondering light
And this which I cast is
Leading me through
The weight with which I travel
Your life I hold in mine
Our eyes seeing, my heart beating
And by will I do
To heal you
Quick arms on the face stare so hard
So empty
Feeling you stare through to break the arms
Break within me
Of memory and warning
A sign of more than mind
My eyes seeing, Our heart beating
For my will I do
To feel you
The voice of the shadow
Overwhelming me
Help me to open my
My wayward eye
The voice of the shadow
Come
My mother's child
The shadows' face
Mirror I stare to grow
And in this stance
The shadows' eclipse
I am here as you
I come to realign
I come to embrace
I come to show you
I love you
I love you
Because the world around us and the life within us are ever changing
We tend to neglect the part of our being which holds the traumas of our past
The aspect of our being that makes up our potential for emotional maturity
The part that holds our inner child
It is our source of regeneration
The most creative part of us
It is said, we must remember the child
For that child will remember
In order for the individual to survive
One must adapt
To culture, to societal normality
But one can only adapt by their definition of self within society
Within culture
We can only know what we immediately and personally interact with
As we are the absolute center of our own universe
This is where the myth of self comes to be
Take for example
If a child, whose father comes home from work angry and frustrated every evening
The child will internally read this as "I am not loved"
Completely missing the seemingly logical explanation for their fathers' frustrations
Thus developing an egocentric reality contained within the subordinate mind
This is our mythical reality
This is our ego
The need to find and heal the child is part of an ancient human longing
Where behind our individual pasts lies our culture pasts contained in myth
For us to escape the mythical reality of our ego
We must ask ourselves
Is this truly who I want to be
This is our ego
My eyes burn from the shrilling of light
My shadow
In which I stand
Behold
Has sunken in
