Edward Sexton - Another Sad Movie

There's another sad movie
Playing outside my window
You're in my bed behind me
Can you tell me it's time to go

I lean my head on the cold glass
A thousand faces pass by every day
A thousand pair of eyes have glanced over me
But none have looked the right way

The street far below is too close
The cold rain leans across the ages
The window is open to tidy the room
Of unsaid words and empty pages

What really belongs to me?
In a place that's so strange
I'm not sure if you're really here
But the hope that you are remains

Well I descend with the rain
To sidewalks filled with eyes looking down
Bound to the ground in fear of the sky
The weight of the sorrow they wear like a crown

I watched the dying passenger
shout affirmations to the cross
No matter how hard he tries he gets no reply
he gets up and mutters your loss

I look up at a poster that says look to the future
I turned and kicked my spur into the dirt
But the embers of a history rises before me
And asked Christ, what's got you so hurt

What really belongs to me
When every scene slips away
Down gutters of memory
Occupying the same endless day

I listen to the last of the hard rain
And ten minutes later I'm left in tears
This storm was only meant to last the night
But I've been here for years

Just a thousand more souls swimming
And in the cold, amongst them rose
Your eyes the colour of a stranger's
Talking like me, wearing my clothes

Well that's the infinite just there
Just outside my window
But there's no one here to show
You're not here to tell me it's time to go

What really belongs to me
When I stand here alone
Broken glass on faces I pass
This view is all I own

A thousand frames flying by
In the silver shades of my night
Movie screen tears, memories and fears
This empty room, blood in black and white
