Drew Dillon - Another Soul

Town is darker today
It's defeated, it's sad, it's quieter
As I walk to City Hall to sign her Book of Condolence
And wonder what words I can write to her

The hard, wet pavement lies beneath my feet
I walk around the buildings, turn in your streets
The wind it hits my back and my face to the rain
Familiar roads and people that know my name

The city sprawls out, it's lit against the sky
The clouds roll in and the street lamps catch my eye
A sea of faces, but there's not a word, no sound
A sea of people, but there's no one around

Cause something's changed this road's a dead end
The walls have grown
They're too high to climb
I question all that I've known in my short time

How can we break out of this nightmare
When people turn to thin air?
Missing posters and names and the digging of graves and
How can we slam the door on what's gone before?
We love this country and want more
Today all that I know
Is that this places takes another soul

We have the perfect storm of the rise of support for these Dissident Republicans
We have BREXIT threatening our, our peace our very, very fragile peace here

How can a place we know so well, swallow us up?
You bring me to my knees but we'll drink from your cup
There's a pit of people waiting, their eyes to the sky
I'm lost
Can anyone find me?
Can anyone try?

The city sprawls out, it's lit against the sky
The clouds roll in and the street lamps catch my eye
A sea of faces, but there's not a word, no sound
A sea of people, but there's no one around

Cause something's changed this road's a dead end
The walls have grown
They're too high to climb
I question all that I've known in my short time

How can we break out of this nightmare
When people turn to thin air?
Missing posters and names and the digging of graves and
How can we slam the door on what's gone before?
Don't we love this country and want more?
Today all that I know
Is that this places takes another soul

We're not kids of war
We're The Ceasefire Babies
Too young to remember the worst of terror
'Peacetime's' a maybe
We were meant to reap The Good Friday Agreement
Is what they taught us
But you see, the spoils of peace never seem to reach us

But something's changed this road's a dead end
The walls have grown
They're too high to climb
I question all that I've known in my short time

How can we break out of this nightmare
When people turn to thin air?
It's missing posters and names and the digging of graves and
How can we slam the door on what's gone before?
Don't we love this country and want more?
Today all that I know
Is that this places takes another soul
