Sean Baker's Recycled Stardust - Autumn Leaves

I watch the autumn leaves
Slowly change from a verdant green
Into cherry and deep mahogany
They fade to shades of gold and tangerine
The descent and death of every living thing
Our yearly sacrifice and offering
The winds begin to shift, all the colors bleed
What a sight to see
The changing leaves
As they tumble
To the ground
Below my feet
Watch how they crumble
Right down
Into nothing
What a sick and twisted irony
How dark winter can sometimes be
Through the blinding white that covers everything
And all the twinkling nights through the bitter freeze
Everywhere I look are evergreens
Their dead remains displayed for a family
Made up nice with lights and presents underneath
O Christmas tree
O Christmas tree
Just how lovely
Your death
Can be
And if it's true for you
I pray the same
Fate for me
Set me on fire and watch
My thick smoke billowing
Then dance around my body
Singing songs
Of what I used to be
When the year is dead and gone
Then we'll welcome yet another
One more lap around the sun
And we'll all race on together
Tethered to this rock
Spinning 'round a lesser star
In some random galaxy
But back down on my front porch
I look upon and wonder
How long I have before
I finally close my eyes forever
Will I be remembered
Or will my memory wave goodbye
And say goodnight
And fade and die
Like autumn leaves
