Tanner Laws - Ballad of a Creek Bed

Picking up rocks and huck 'em at trees
Bald eagle flying in the Big Sky breeze
Abandoned old beaver damn, we'd go see rotten old trout heads
We'd come across a cave, but never went in
Running through the woods and crawling under fence
Laughing and living in the Mountain West like my parents did
Well, me and her became best friends
We never wanted that to end
So we played wedding when we were ten down in the creek bed
I had no proper sign to give her
But a pretty little daisy wrapped around her finger
Pinky-promised to give our hearts to one another
We grew up quick like old knapweed
And came to terms as a dying breed
Hand-in-hand, we were thick as thieves, wild and unafraid
The other kids didn't think we'd last that long
But we made off like an old love song
Down by the bridge we'd sit and talk about what lie ahead
She was always the funny one
I was only a teacher's son
I learned a thing or two about having fun down in the creek bed
I had to wedding band to give her
But my high school ring loose around her finger held a place 'til I could make enough to buy her better
