Darryl Atherton - Bridges Crossed

I'm back walking the streets of my youth
Always a risky business seeking the truth
Flashbacks to tin baths in front of the fire
A journey to depress or set to inspire

Those days of summer's heat haze
Playing out till dark yet up with the lark
Mingling birdsong cuts the sultry morning
Day back in mind with reality dawning

Names and faces puts memory through it's paces
Elizabeth and Derek Bank Managers
Alan and Sam Teachers to inspire
Robert the Composer Paul the Accountant
Phil and Gwen Photographers paramount

Still making a change is Graham in Law
Some other notable ones with us no more
Keeping us warm is Glenn on the Gas
Bluecoat St James that Grammar School Class

Standing on the corner romance to the fore
Lying on the floor giving it what for
Report cards illuminated by Monks long ago
Successful careers say I told you so

Sad to see all the old schools have gone
Two still standing can't say the same for the other one
Those buildings put to alternative use
With us out there on the loose

Memory recalls all those fresh faces
Seeing the ghosts in all the usual places
We've made a change time wasn't lost
Some bridges burned mostly bridges crossed

Some bridges burned mostly bridges crossed
