Phander - Chapter Four_ a Short Break: The Tale of Crocodile & Squirrel

Now as you've decided to take a short break from the rest of the world
I want you to sit back
Relax
And listen to this short story I wrote
This story is the tale of Crocodile and Squirrel and how they became friends
But it all begins days before our two characters first met
When Crocodile as usual became the center of all parties at the little lake he was living in
With his fellow animals
So called friends
That admire him for the heroic adventures he talked about
And the experience he apparently had
Well, to be honest
We all know those stories were all a front and make believe
And Crocodile
Crocodile knew he was a liar and no threat at all
All he wanted were friends and to be loved for who he was
To be accepted no matter what
And that was Crocodiles' problem
All these animals were just here to listen to another glorious story
Coming out of the fearful mouth of the Crocodile
One day
When the sky was cold and grey
Rain pouring down on animals and plant alike
He was standing around him a crowd
Fascinated by the dark atmosphere the weather colored his next story in
All of a Sudden he slipped fell and got trapped in a muddy sinkhole
That was formed by the heavy rain
Crocodile had no chance to climb out of that deep pit all by himself

About a mile away from the lake there was Squirrel
Living on her own in one of the highest trees in the entire jungle
She was the most sensitive creature in the jungle
Or at least that's what everyone thought
I have to agree
Because no one was as empathetic and caring as Squirrel
So once back in the day
She tried to cheer up a little tiger
She found crying and sobbing alone
With cuddles and puppets made out of fruit
She did her best and technically a great job
But her parents had always tried to explain to her the way the world works
How to survive and the importance of knowing once enemies
And back then they gave up abandoning her for her soft and caring part
Since then Squirrel had learned
That even most strangers didn't appreciate her help
They took advantage of her friendship and left her in despair

She always ended up alone
But she never really gave up the hope and the urge to find someone
Who respected her and the way she thought
Remember the day when Crocodile got trapped
Sure Squirrel was also covered in rain and mud falling from the trees
But even through all this chaos she noticed a strong voice screaming for help
She hesitated
But the cry of fear stroke deep into her heart
And with goosebumps
She started running into the direction where the screams were coming from
The lonely Squirrel ready to help the strong Crocodile
In the midst of disappointed glares from his friends
The animals thought of the stories
Crocodile had told
And were sure he would be able to escape this by himself in a breeze
They wouldn't have helped him anyways
Because he snapped with sharp teeth for their hands or actually for help
But everyone just left to get to the safety of their own homes

Everyone but Squirrel
So that's how they first met
Oh I see time's up
So think about the end of the tale yourself
How will they become friends and why
Who will Squirrel help Crocodile
I'm sure you can figure it out on your own
But to be continued
