Gord Lang - Could He Be the One

He sat by the well at the noontime - when I came there to fill up my pot
Many times I was told that the Fathers of old used to drink here at this very spot
But He wasn't ashamed to address me though He knew I'm not one of His own
People look at my life their words cut like a knife And that's why I had gone there alone

Do you think this could be the Messiah? the One that God promised to give
It was easy to see as He was speaking to me and telling me how I should live
Well He must have at least been a prophet - for He knew everything that I've done
When He asked for a drink it was hard not to think - this Jesus - could He be The One

I just had to tell all the others of this wonderful Person I've found
Though He knows of my sin still He wants to begin to help me like no one around
You just have to hear Him in person to know that He's more than a man
For He says in a word things that never were heard since all of creation began

And I know this could be the Messiah - though others don't want to believe
Still the promise is new how I hope it is true - living water that I could receive
I would never be forced to come back here where the arrogance burns like the sun
To be rid of my shame through belief in His name - this Jesus - I'm sure He's the One

All the others, convinced of His goodness, together have asked Him to stay
They say they've believed in the words they've received as they sat there and listened today
We all wish that He would stay with us and tell us much more of His love
But He says He must leave so that more can believe - He was sent from His Father above

Now I tell you He is the Messiah! Restoring the joy of my soul
There's no doubt in my mind I am no longer blind to the darkness that used to control
And I'll tell the whole world of His mercy my mission has only begun
Though my life once was wrong now my heart sings this song - this Jesus - I just know
He's the One
