Sammy Campione - Fairytales

Once upon a time
The Gardener tended her forest
This was quite a long time ago
A time of green and tangled innocence
When all was wild and unknown

The Gardener's touch changed the forest
Something mystical did occur
In that far-flung wood the creatures, he gave
Fantastical feathers and furs

And the new forest they made
Work boots and muscle, shovel and spade
Crafted in beauty the groundwork was laid
Never to crumble, never to fade

And that place brought together all those years ago
Became what we know today as Tanglewood Forest
The Gardener, striding into the woods that day
Brought gifts of strength, beauty, and intelligence, to each in their own ways
Everything living there was caught up in the majesty of the new and blossoming kingdom
Flights of splend'rous birds, bright-eyed beasts, and small, swift creatures quick to their Work
It was an age of great peace and prosperity
But...wait long enough after any happy ending
And you're sure to see trouble behind the fairy tale
In the tales of Tanglewood's origin
That trouble came in the form, of The Gardener's sister
Now known, as Mistress Vennona

The Gardener's Sister grew jealous
She wanted a kingdom her own
Saw herself adorned as a queen much adored
So she set out to the shadows alone

The Gardener found out her forest
Awful, misshapen, deformed
A parasitic place with bitter twisted beasts
Of suffocating plants where evil swarmed

Full of nothing but hate and death and evil
Vennona's envious creatures
Now known as The Abominations
Were unlike anything natural to this world
Ugly as they might have been, their strength was terrible
Still jealous of the greater beauty of the Gardener's creation, Vennona used her powers To control the mindless Abominations, sending them to attack the gentle forest of goodly Creatures
But The Gardener rushed to protect his forest
Lashing rain poured down as that great and awful battle took place
And The Gardener drew on mighty powers seldom shown
It was too much for Vennona's horde and they were beaten, but not without inflicting Great damage upon Tanglewood
Seeing his peaceful garden smeared with pain and fear, The Gardener took righteous Vengeance, and slew all of his sister's Abominations on the battlefield
Vennona fled in anger, crying curses at her brother and swearing she would one day Return

The Gardener protected her forest
Determined to keep it that way
Created a race called the peacekeeper moths
To watch o'er the garden night and day

The Gardener drained from exertion
Found herself home in a glade
A cabin kept close but distant enough
At peace, at rest where she lay

And that's where he lives to this day
Or so the legend tells
The strain of the battle caused him to age more rapidly
But at peace, he is an ancient being able to live for almost an eternity
This history is still told many times over, as the young ones in the forest listen with Wonder and amazement of the tale passed on from generation to generation
Today, the forest community thrives stronger than ever
Generations have passed without even a whisper from The Gardener's sister
And things run smoothly for the happy creatures who live here in Tanglewood
But
Well, you remember what I said earlier about fairy tale endings
