Tierra Ducote - To My First Love

LOVE
A four letter word
Possibly one of the smallest words in the dictionary
Yet has the greatest impact on one's life
When I think of you I think of the very essence of love
Love in its most authentic and purest form
For twenty eight years
I never experienced a love without hurt
My definition of love was warped
And as a result
I was ruined
Then I met you
I met you in pieces
I met you in the very pieces
That originally belonged to you
That were abused and ruined
By those who were also abused and ruined
Distraught depressed angry lost and upset with the world
And everything in it because my heart was broken
I cried to you
I ran to you
I yearned for you
I heard you were a Savior and I needed saving
I heard you were a Waymaker
And I needed a way out of the pit I had been buried in
I heard you were a Redeemer
And I needed to be redeemed
And I heard in you I had an identity
That was a gold mine to one with low self esteem
With nothing left in me
I called your name Jesus
And I breathed my last breath
Then you reached down from on high
And took hold of me
You breathed life in my dry bones
And drew me out of deep waters
You rescued me from my powerful enemies
Who buried me in the ground
And brought me into a spacious place
Because you delighted in me
You gave me a hope and a future to look forward to
And revealed to me my identity in you
And you showed me a love I'd never known
Yet it was everything that I needed
You gave love a new meaning
And its true definition
Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy
It does not boast it is not proud
It is not rude it is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love never fails
Love is God
Love is laying down your life voluntarily
And though you can pick it up at any time
You choose not to
Because love is the
Atonement for the sins of those you love most
Your people your bride your church
So to my First Love Jesus thank you
For being everything that I needed you to be
When I needed you to be it
Thank you that though I saw a sinner and a pile of ruins
You saw the love of your life
And you showed me great mercy and compassion
Although thank you isn't enough
Know that I am forever in your debt
Love
Your Beloved
