Albert York - Graveyard Watch

Each century feels the same, for so too does my past
I don't remember living, my life was over fast
All I can recall was the day they buried me
They didn't mark my grave, I was first in line, you see
And my spirit was enslaved to keep the demons out
I'll never part to heaven, I never had a doubt
Each soul that passes through me seems so much more fulfilled but I'm alone
And eternal, I am bound to graveyard watch

As my spirit ages faster and the years become the days
The church becomes more empty as my people move away
As lichen, moss and ivy constricts and binds these stones
And the tower, once so tall, has become one with the bones
And no-one comes to visit since the forest took control
The headstones all a-crumbling and the bells no longer toll
But still, I linger on in my corner of the churchyard all alone
Eternal, I am bound to graveyard watch

And have they all forgotten what they did to me that time?
They never seemed to care, I'm just a slave to the divine
Still waiting for release, I howl into the night but I'm alone
Eternal, I am bound to graveyard watch
