The fire burned intensely through the night
Beautiful as it blazed but it wasn’t right
It always stayed inside the ring
On occasion it would breach
To reveal red hands attached to me
But from blood or flame I couldn’t see
It seemed to die as I blinked
I felt the shock of cold disbelief
That this fire I spent kindling for so long
Would leave me alone with a broken bond
It felt so sudden but I would’ve seen it
Had I not been self deceiving
Still I try to pick up pieces
Of who I was but I can’t see them
Trapped in memories of the fire’s passion
Lost within my darkest bastion
The question now is what was real
And if answered could heartbreak heal
