Sandy Rapp - I Never Knew

I Never Knew
© Sandy Rapp 1968

Was it me, was it you, who first said I love you,
Was it me, was it you, who said our love was true,
Did you cry when I left or was it
Me who left you,
Is it true that I Never Knew.

Where did you end and where did I begin,
Was it off, was it on, was it maybe we were friends,
There was Saturn in your chart
Or perhaps we were twins,
And it spins but it never ends.

When you found a thorn in my bed of roses
My morning glory grieved.
Or were the vines of our symbiosis
Too much entwined to cleave?

Now it's you, and it's me in erratic harmony,
And it's there, and it's here and it's when we both were free
You were gray every day and I was blue without you,
And it's true, but I Never Knew.
