Jeff Soule - In My Shoes

In a bind and left behind
Feel so tired and out of time
Because what I'm searching for
It seems I just can't find
So frustrated and dissipated
Consolidated I wish I was emancipated
And when I think I finally have it
It slips right through my hands

There's this guy and he goes out driving
He don't know where he's going
And he don't really care
What would you do in my shoes
See nothing seems to make sense anymore
Work traffic deadlines politics
It's just all so stressful
What would you do in my shoes
So he keeps driving and driving and driving
Til he comes to the ocean
It's dark and no one's around
And he gets out
What would you do in my shoes
They found him later that day
He'd blown a hole in his head
The note in his hand said he just couldn't take it
And it read
What would you do in my shoes

Caught in danger and unaware
Violated against her will
When she wakes up from her nightmares
She knows it's always there
So confused about what to do
Been abused and there's a lot to lose
In her mind she tries to justify
The right to choose

See she got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time
And as if that wasn't enough
She had an even bigger problem
What would you do in my shoes
Oh, they caught up with him the next day
He didn't have much to say
But as for her
She was carrying a part of him now
What would you do in my shoes
It wasn't just that she was young and struggling
But she didn't know how she could give the right kind of love
While always being reminded of her brutal attack
What would you do in my shoes
To this day she lives with her guilt
Still trying to forget her fated decision
But in the end when it comes right down to it
What would you do in my shoes
