The Active Set - It Multiplies

make sense where evidence convinced you
new love needs a fair amount of follow-through
these things are building on what you thought you knew
expect the best out of your best friends
it's not to say that the character is pretense
but to recall that everyone has a fatal flaw

if left unsupervised the worst things can occur
first the hunt and then the kill

damage done from a slip of my tongue
my apology is quick but ineffective
you'll state your case to eyes that never narrow
but disappointment, it multiplies

one kiss is all it takes to break me
now now, we're only being neighborly
but there is compromise in this position
loveless, the way the world pulls me
in this misguided opportunity
result: dissatisfaction guaranteed

I'm up against a wall all set to explode
too late to change my mind

the chances that we take, the promises we break
first the buildup then the letdown
