Albert York - King Edmund (The Great Grey Wolf)

King Edmund went to war one day
To keep the viking Lords at bay
And protect the rolling hills he called home
His army marched into the town
The vikings cut his soldiers down
He noticed he was fighting all alone
Before they put his soul to rest
Their arrows filled his bloody chest
They tied his body to an old oak tree
And so they're sure he's dead for good
His head rolled off into the woods
And with his dying breath he did plea

The Great grey wolf will guide me
Protect me, be beside me till I'm found
The great grey wolf will keep me
Take my head and bury me in the ground

The head rolled over hill and dale
The vikings tried but they did fail
To find their trophy for their hellish lord
So they took Edmund's corpse instead
To show their Lord that he was dead
They cheered and raised their glasses with their swords
They dumped his body in the sea
But farther down the coast there be
A cove where he was washed up by the tides
For several days king Edmund lay
And when we found him we did pray
And from his severed neck we heard his cries

The great grey wolf will guide you
Protect you, be beside you til I'm found
The great grey wolf will keep me
Take my head and bury me in the ground

The voice, it lead them through the trees
To a head that lay in moss and leaves
And the ghostly wolf that guarded him so long
The wolf walked off, his deed was done
He vanished in the evening sun
And echoing in the hills we hear his song

The Great grey wolf will guide you
Protect you, be beside you till you're found
The great grey wolf will keep you
Take your head and bury you in the ground
Take your head and bury you in the ground
Take your head and bury you in the ground
