Amanda Maher - Lilac Tree

So I asked the beautiful Lilac tree
How does your garden grow?
Will it always be just tomorrow or
In a week or so?

And do you wait for the sun to shine for you to surely show?
Or the warm embrace
Of a softer fate
To cut right through the snow?

And if you're truly honest
Flipping frankness for free
How many of your pretty flowers
Will I get to see

After a dismal drip of darkness
Before a rainbow of rays
In the middle of a monsoon
On a muddy May day?

So I asked the pretty tree
How everything is okay
How it knows to open up its bloom
Or wait for another day
If there's a method to the madness
A secret to the way
An underlying truth that has left us all at bay

She said that
We grow into the bloom
She told me
You'll make it someday soon
She said that
We grow into the bloom
She told me
You'll make it someday soon

So closer to the root
I asked this old tree to look
For any hidden stories
Tucked away inside it's book
Of spring come and gone
Turned to summer into fall
Of a secret code inside the walls
To explain it once for all

But no such instructions were given to me
No simple set of steps to take were delivered by the tree
But in her many petals twisted strings of memories
Of what there is
And what has been
And what is yet to be

She said that
We grow into the bloom
She told me
You'll make it someday soon
She said that
We grow into the bloom
She told me
You'll make it someday soon

Someday
