Vold Book - Lily of the Valley

I remember what she said, before she left

Take with you only what you can carry
The road ahead is narrow, its ways are unforgiving
This path may lead to an endless life
But our timing will always have been so curious

It is unclear if we will survive to see the new world
Or if we shall meet our demise before the event

How ironic: those who hold everything
Can take nothing with them in the end
And those yet-to-be, often with so very little
Inherit the world for all time to come

So I go along my own way
Few possessions on my back
Her moonlight, my only guide

Walking out, she did not turn to say goodbye
I caught the golden sun upon her hair
And for a moment wondered
If anything could have been different
But I knew that her time had come
I upheld a facade of strength and wished her well
Cold air rushed inside, with a frenzy

Standing there, all alone
I thought back to how it all began

A rendezvous of happenstance
Our fates, so intertwined
Drifting by the days
Closer to each other
Two leaves of the same tree
Grown together, fallen separately
And laying side by side

How long could we sustain this position?
Twelve years only, before the wind tore us apart

But that time, so short and blessed
Was the best I'd ever known
Life has its own trajectory
And there are some things
That cannot be overcome

We parted ways
But our mission stayed the same
We fought for the future, together and alone
And forward we shall go
Onward to the great revelation

Listening to the ocean's rhythmic tide

Within an hourglass all things wither and decay
But don't let this stop you from remarking on subtle beauties
The transient nature of everything that blooms sustains appreciation
For when you know that it's not going to last
You are free to immerse yourself, whole-heartedly
Within the boundless majesty of mysteries and wonder
That we are here at all, to take in what we can
Is the most glorious thing

And those who live in Versailles
Despite their claims to every endless treasure
Cannot establish their reference point
To base satisfaction on

Long live the stasis-revolution
Victory to those who are emblazoned

May their banners be evermore vibrant
With threads of hope spun from innocent dreams
I will take her with me, as I come to join the march
You cannot see her, but she is there

Standing tall with wings of light
Steadfast resolve, and powers of discernment
To judge the winds of change and face the ever-shifting duty
On our road so dark and narrow
Carrying only what she can upon her back
I endorse the noble quest among the stars
And give back everything that I am given
Until at last my bones come clean beneath the grave oak
Or support my flesh inside wildest horizon

For in the end, it's all the same
Cycles of becoming, without conclusion
Cycles of rain and moon and birth and sleep
Passive soils underneath
Cradling the expectations of a sudden wanderer
Sailing across the years

Come inside and gather memories
Share the virtues of experience, and drink with your guild
The hardships we've all known are coming due
With everlasting sustenance

Place your care in the ways that you know
And cherish everything
