Novena - Lucidity

Bear the weight of the world on your shoulders
Let it crush you into dust
For the sake of a moment's joy, you break my trust

To feel alone, when thoughts are not my own...
Spaces between the lines of truth are blurring

These lucid dreams
They are sparing me from my unending sleep that I'll never need
I don't need you to save me from myself

Slip away, peacefully
Dissipate, blissfully
Everything, caught in lucidity
Eternally gone

Less travelled roads
My darkness takes hold
Ash into flame
As memory is fading

Twisted lucid dreams
Did you spare me from my
Never ending sleep
I'll never need
To find you waiting patiently for me

When you think that all is lost
And it leaves you wanting more
When all clarity is gone
Then there comes a moment of lucidity

Rumours have spread like a plague to our heads
There's a cancer among us of women and men
Residing in castles up on silent thrones
The voiceless make choices they think are their own

Roads can be paved with each promise made
There are hands to be shaken and contracts exchanged
Lo, and behold! Revolutions unfold
There is profit in death when the story is sold

I still remember how it was when we were young
When my angels would throw me to the wolves

Those timeless tales of man and machine
They were sold to our children and captured our dreams
No one predicted and no one prepared
What we were inventing was already there

Facts can be silenced but fiction is told
Nothing is simple when money's involved
One thing is certain, that science has made
a key to a door to a virtual escape.

Take me back to the days that time forgot
When my angels would throw me to the wolves

I am waking glossolalia.
I am seemingly-random, disordered syntax trying desperately to arrange itself into something finite, resolute and communicable.
I am the chord progression seeking resolution, but constantly modulating around the root.
I am the shades of grey that keep the meek awake at night.
I am the meek awake at night.

I am the ceaseless and unrepentant longing of the heart and of the loins.
I am the lonely who is never alone.
I am the humble which passes through the eye of the needle.
I am the greedy that shall not.
I am the nihilist who sees God in all things.
I am the God who sees nothing in anything.
I am fierce deity and pathetic entity.
I am everything and I am nothing.

But you?
You are the endless eye of an endless apocalypse.
You are the infinite bloom of the fertilised tomb and
you are the shadow which haunts my sleep.
You are the inescapable through which I weep.
You are the trauma and the pain.
You were the labours that were not in vain.
You are the demons I have yet to slay.
And we we?
We are one and the same.

Questions I have to this day remain unanswered
Pull at the thread to unravel the truth instead
Freedom and Chains, loss and gain they're one and the same
Lay down your cross, pull the anchor and sail away

Fail to see ten forest fires from one burning tree
Down on two knees asking with whom do I make peace
Only have myself to thank and myself to blame
With one last breath say your prayers and sail away

A blanket of darkness consuming me
An ocean of time is erasing me
A quicksand of shadows is pulling me

When you think that all is lost
And it leaves you wanting more
When all clarity is gone
Then there comes a moment of lucidity
