Za's Stair - Madawaska

Don't be mad, Madawaska
I looked at you like any other town
The riverside into Canada
The homes for sale all throughout the town

Clean yards and rolling hillsides
Neighborly and far into north Maine
I don't know how the border sees you
But I just might come visit you again

Don't be mad, Madawaska
Though heating costs may hardly be divine
When the bears and the moose come
We'll share kegs of beer and coax them to be kind

Envy sails with the mad draw
To larger joints in temperate climes
But with the snow and the road trucks
A rhythm forms which cannot be denied

Don't be mad, Madawaska
I speak to you as a New Englander
What we have, Madawaska
Is poetry deep inside the stir
