Peachtree Poets - Old Hickory Tree

By the old hickory tree where we carved our names
We swore forever as the seasons changed
With the wind in our hair and the earth 'neath our feet
In that sacred place our hearts would meet

Years have come and gone but the tree still stands
A testament of love etched by our hands
Through the storms and the sunshine it's weathered all
Like our love standing strong and tall

Old hickory tree keeper of our past
In your shade our memories last
With every ring another tale to tell
Of a love that's timeless and always will dwell

We danced in the moonlight beneath your boughs
Made promises and dreams beneath your vows
Even when life took us down different roads
The love we planted forever grows

Now I come back to where it all began
To the old hickory tree where we made our stand
I feel your spirit in the whispering leaves
In this place where my heart still believes

Old hickory tree keeper of our past
In your shade our memories last
With every ring another tale to tell
Of a love that's timeless and always will dwell

Through the years and the miles though we've been apart
The roots of our love run deep in my heart
Like the old hickory tree standing strong and true
I'll always find my way back to you

Old hickory tree keeper of our past
In your shade our memories last
With every ring another tale to tell
Of a love that's timeless and always will dwell

So here I stand by the old hickory tree
Where the echoes of our love will always be
In this sacred place beneath the sky so blue
Our love endures forever true
Our love endures forever true
