Lingportal - Prepositions of Time

I'm on a preposition mission so listen up!

I'm gonna tell you what it's all about

So if you're on a preposition mission listen

And you'll never be in any doubt

Use ON with days of the week

On Monday on Tuesday on Wednesday on Thursday, on Friday...

It's as simple as that! Easy!

Use IN with months, seasons, year, time of day, or before an exact time

A little something like this – check it out...

In June, in Summer, in the evening, in 1963, in a minute, in an hour

Use AT at night, at the weekend or at an exact time, like at 5pm

I'm on a preposition mission so listen up!

I'm gonna tell you what it's all about

So if you're on a preposition mission listen

And you'll never be in any doubt

Use FOR to indicate the period of time from the past to now

Like for 5 years

Use AGO to indicate an exact time in the past

Like what?......Like 5 years ago!

Use SINCE for the exact time in the past to now

Like since 2001

Use BEFORE before a particular time

Like before May or before the chorus...

I'm on a preposition mission so listen up!

I'm gonna tell you what it's all about

So if you're on a preposition mission listen

And you'll never be in any doubt

Use BY up to a particular time

Like I'll do this by 3 o'clock

Or you can use BY to indicate someone who's done something like

A novel by Henry, or this song by me!

Use TO or TILL to define the end of a time

Like from 9 to 5 or 9 till 5

Use TILL or UNTIL before a particular time like

I'll be waiting till Friday or until the end of time!

I'm on a preposition mission so listen up!

I'm gonna tell you what it's all about

So if you're on a preposition mission listen

And you'll never be in any doubt

I'm on a preposition mission so listen up!

I'm gonna tell you what it's all about

So if you're on a preposition mission listen

And you'll never be in any doubt

Mission completes
