Brooks Dixon - Promises

The autumn is orange
Pretty words from a sonnet
But poetry is dead to me
Cause I can't feel the winter
Or the warmth of burning timber
Yes promises long gone
Have left me numb

Oh promises
They ain't easy
Cause when the wind blows
And its breezy
My promises don't last
So if you don't mind me saying
As the green trees are swaying
That I don't care
For promises
I'd rather just say yes

Purple hearted warriors
And royal tin soldiers
Have trampled me down in the mud
But I'd played a fool once or twice
And they fed me my rice
But it all came crashing with a thud

Oh promises
They ain't easy
Cause when the wind blows
And its breezy
My promises don't last
So if you don't mind me saying
As the green trees are swaying
That I don't care
For promises
I'd rather just say yes

And I'm hopin' and prayin'
That this storm comes down
Cause I can't keep lying no more
And it ain't no fun when you're blinded by the sun
And you just hope and you pray
That its gonna be ok
Cause you promised me
Yeah you promised me

Oh promises
They come easy
To the wicked and sleazy
Please don't do me like that
So if ya don't mind me saying
As the petty thieves keep praying
That I don't care
For promises
I'd rather just hear yes
