It was six a.m.
When I walked through that door
I'd been down this road, but never seen this place before
Outside the sign said, Welcome to the Rise 'N Shine Cafe
But, the room was empty
So, I turned to walk away

The waitress came in from the back, she said I'm Angeline
She was the prettiest girl, these eyes have ever seen
She took my order and all the while
She charmed me with her smile
It was then I noticed her clothes were out of style

And, when I got up to leave, she wouldn't let me pay
She wanted me to spend my life at the Rise 'N Shine Cafe
I told her I had freight to haul
But, I'd be back to stay
And, I've been searching ever since
For the Rise 'N Shine Cafe

I asked an old trucker I'd met in Santa Fe
Had he ever heard of the Rise 'N Shine Cafe
His lips began to tremble and a tear came to his eye
When he regained composure, this was his reply

It was back in '55 I was hauling freight this way
I stopped at a new place called the Rise 'N Shine Cafe
I fell in love with a waitress there, her name was Angeline
She was the prettiest girl, these eyes have ever seen

We were to be married, after I'd made one more haul
Late that night in Cheyenne, I received a call
A bolt of lightning, burned that dinner to the ground
There in the smoke and ashes, my Angeline was found

I told her I had freight to haul
But, I'd be back to stay
And, I've been searching ever since
For the Rise 'N Shine Cafe
