The Devil Music Co. - Talk to Me

Talk to me about god
Go on
Tell me your theories
What makes you mad
And what brings you hope
What flares your knuckles
And what fires your soul
Tell me that you’ve given up.
Tell me about what made you walk away
Tell me the reason you could never leave
Plead with me to stay
Tell me what brings you right up to the edge
What teetering tendrils and threads of thought
Trend your treads towards the brink
And what stops your splintered steps
Tell me the things so relatable and real
That you laugh and i laugh because
Goddamnit sometimes it hurts how much we feel
when the shadows land on the table top
between our splashed beer drops
and you take your glasses off
giggling wipe the tears
from the corner of your eyes
because it’s funny
and cathartic
and we’re both so damn relieved to find
that these monsters under our beds
were the same silly teddy bears in the light
Say your name to me
But not the one your mother gave you
Not the one the preacher said would save you
Say the one carved on a grave in the backyard
when you were young
the one you’re afraid is wrong
The name you hope you’re called
When all is said and done
But the one you’re scared you’ll speak
And they and these and me
We’ll all tell you that you’re wrong
while all the letters and the vowel stuff
dissolves to dandylion fluff
On the winds of everything you ever doubted about yourself
Come on
Tell it to me
Because I’m not mad anymore
It doesn’t make me feel sad or empty either
It all makes me happy
Even if we disagree
Even if it confuses the hell out of me
I like it all
It all stirs and sparks
Put your bitter gripped and tightly held beliefs on the altar
Let me light the dried leafs with my plastic gas station lighter
let’s dance in a circle around the fire with it’s blue and green lights
You sing in your tongue and I’ll scream chants in mine
And maybe in the madness and the smoke we’ll find
what we forgot we were looking for
when we were lost boys
maybe we’ll all Peter Pan our shadows to our feet finally
we’ll take our helmets off on mars
and gulp the foreign stars like milk
realize the air has been breathe-able the whole time
All the aliens are our paper-mâché book-end brothers
And the planets are all atoms and mirrors
Reflecting back our deepest fears and brightest dreams
Don’t you understand
All we are and have
From the big bang to adam and eve
all our heroes, gods, fathers, dragons, lovers, monsters and mothers
our past present and future
all the scribes and scholars, politicians and postmen
we’re all just atoms and energy
spinning and interacting indefinitely and infinitely with other atoms
And it’s all ridiculous and silly and so serious
and seriously so beautiful
So why not?
talk to me about god
I wouldn’t rather talk about anything else
Let’s stay up late pontificating
about spirituality over whiskey
It’s all fascinating and fulfilling
It’s all meaningless and full of meaning
It’s all us talking about anything
and nothing
and it’s everything
